Certificate Management Wizard (MyProxy Uploader)

The Certificate Management Wizard (also known as MyProxy Uploader) is a Java application that is used to manage your Grid credentials (Public Certificate and associated Private Key) and your Grid settings on your local computer. We recommend that you run this tool to setup your computer correctly after you have received your Grid Certificate. Functionality  includes:

tick  Backup (export) your credentials from your browser, and install/configure them on your computer.

tick  Install/configure other required certificates on your computer (Certificate Authority, CA certificates).

tick  Install/configure NGS Virtual Organisation settings (VOMS certificates and Vomses files).

tick  Create time-limited local ‘Proxy’ credentials on your computer allowing you to authenticate to Grid resources without having to repeatedly re-enter your username and password (Grid Single Sign-On).

tick  Upload Proxy credentials to a remote MyProxy server so that it can be accessed by other Grid applications and when you are travelling.

Running / Launching

Due the NGS website relocation; If you have previously downloaded and ran this application you will need to clear your Java WebStart cache (instructions here) and re-launch this application (its internal codebase has now changed).

We highly recommend that you launch the application using the orange Java WebStart Launch button below. This will install the Java runtime environment on your computer if you do not already have Java installed (Java v1.5+ required). In addition, updates/bug-fixes to the application will be automatically downloaded and installed when they become available.

Run Certificate Management Wizard (VOMS enabled):

You may also run the application directly without checking for the correct version of Java on your computer using the following link: http://tools.ngs.ac.uk/ngstools/certwizard/myproxy.jnlp

Note that you may see the following screen as the tool starts up. This is safe to accept, it relates to the cryptography libraries:

If you exported your PKCS#12 file from your browser and used a password that is greater than 7 characters, you will need to download and install the Java Cryptography Extension (JCE) Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy Files so that Java applications such as the Certificate Management Wizard and GSI-SSHTerm can read this file. This is a matter of U.S. policy and U.S. export controls (not due to technical reasons).
Without these files, you may encounter an "Illegal Key Size" Error when accessing PKCS#12 files
