This talk will demonstrate how it is possible to access and use NGS resources using institutional login credentials (via the UK Access Management Federation).

It will describe how the UK's two main e-Science authentication systems are combined to form an easy to use yet robust identity management environment.  It will discuss how this mechanism links together with system, project and Virtual Organisation (VO) registration procedures.

The "Cloud" is a natural evolution of distributed computing and of the widespread adaption of virtualization and SOA. In Cloud Computing, IT-related capabilities and resources are provided as services, via the Internet and on-demand, accessible without requiring detailed knowledge of the underlying technology.  The IEEE International Conference and Workshops on Cloud Computing Technology and Science, steered by the Cloud Computing Association, aim to bring together researchers who work on cloud computing and related technologies.

Date:
Sep 27 2011 - 13:30 - 16:30
Location:
Room RCH 017, Ron Cooke Hub, University of York

The workshop is an opportunity to meet researchers that have been promoting and leading research over the past decade of e-Science;  find out about their work and how they utilise e-Infrastructure, and learn how you can interact with them.

Okay, so you already have a little experience working with e-Infrastructure. Perhaps you are undertaking, or have completed, doctoral studies, and find yourself engaging  with clouds or grids for the first time?

Ask yourself this: wouldn’t it be good to take some time this summer to get practical advice and hands-on support for deploying e-Infrastructure in your work?
