Introduction
Durham, through its Particle Physics cluster, is a Tier 2 site within EGEE, a member of the UK GridPP project, and a founder member of the ScotGrid project. Initially motivated by the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology (IPPP), Durham is now an NGS affiliate enabling a wider use of the resources throughout the UK.
System Configuration
Currently, the Durham ScotGrid cluster has 672 job slots - running on Xeon L5430 processors with 2GB of available RAM per job. Resources are allocated based on a fairshare algorithm controlled via the PBS/Maui job scheduler. Durham also provides over 30TB of storage, most of which is configured for special purpose use with the Storage Resource Manager (nb this is different from the SRB).
The computing element (CE), storage element (SE) and all worker nodes conform to the requirements set out by the GridPP community.
The operating system is Scientific Linux at version 4.7
Middleware, compilers and other software
The gLite 3.1 Grid Middleware is installed. Based on Globus Toolkit 2, gLite affords the usual NGS facilities for job management and file transfer.
